Welcome to Watch for Me OK: A Community Safety Initiative

Imagine a community where every roadway, neighborhood, crosswalk, and bike lane is a safe space for making your morning commute, walking to a park, school, or leisurely biking between local small businesses. That is the vision that we are working to bring into focus for all Central Oklahomans. Watch for Me OK, is a collaborative public traffic safety initiative brought to you by the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) and the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office (OHSO). Together, we’re working to shape safer cities and walkable communities by advocating for efficient infrastructure and providing accessible resources and information, so everyone can travel with confidence wherever they roam.

Watch For Me OK supports drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists around central Oklahoma with resources and best practices in traffic safety. When the roads are safer for pedestrians and bicyclists that makes it safer for everyone, drivers included.

Safer streets, sidewalks, bike lanes, and trails aren’t just convenient, they are a civil necessity. The ACOG and other local governments are proactively developing physical and informational frameworks for improving region-wide safety awareness, with an emphasis on vulnerable areas like school zones and areas of high pedestrian traffic. By educating and providing context to people about best practices for pedestrian and bicycle safety, we’re taking a motivated step toward reducing traffic collisions. When the roads are safer for those walking, rolling and riding, it also improves traffic safety for drivers and creates a more welcoming environment for everyone on or off wheels.

These intentional efforts exist to guide and protect the vast Central Oklahoma population we serve. We believe that continued community feedback, participation, and involvement are crucial to the success of Watch for Me OK. We welcome and encourage you to reach out and share your experiences navigating the community as a pedestrian, cyclist, or driver with us. Your insights will help us identify areas where we can raise awareness and ensure that we continue to make a meaningful impact.

Join us in building a safer, more informed Central Oklahoma by sharing the resources and safety tips available on our website. Together, we can co-create an environment, where everyone feels knowledgeable and empowered to move about freely.
